Unit 4 Ovarian Anatomy and Physiology

This educational unit teaches students the anatomical structure of the ovaries, including their location, ligamentous attachments, histological layers, and the three-layer composition (germinal epithelium, cortex, and medulla). Students will learn how ovarian size, appearance, and function change across the lifespan from fetal development through menopause, and how to calculate ovarian volume using ultrasound measurements, with clinical applications for differentiating normal physiology from pathology.
